Small business of the year nominee – HDL Commercial

Staffordshire-based independent insurance broker HDL Commercial prides itself on cutting through the jargon for its customers.

The company, based in Alton, was set up by director Jo Beaty in 2019 after the insurance company she had been working for was sold.

Her team of two pride themselves on their customer focus, thorough approach and dedication to small businesses.

Jo said: “I was relatively new to the world of insurance when I set up the business. I’d worked for a small insurance brokerage for three years where I did my training. That business was sold so I had the option to work for another business or to set up for myself.

“I love it. I think the frustration some customers feel is that there’s a lot of jargon and complicated terms and conditions used in this industry. I work with clients to help them understand and to understand their needs. My skillset is in helping clients to understand things.”

HDL Commercial has been nominated in the Small Business of the Year category of the University of Staffordshire Business Awards by Tomasz Putynkowski.

He said: “HDL Commercial is renowned for its unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. The team at HDL Commercial takes the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances and insurance requirements. This personalised approach ensures that clients receive tailored insurance solutions that provide the best possible coverage and value.”

Jo added: “The feedback we get from clients is what matters most to me. I think it’s really important that the client has a positive interaction.”
