Small Business of the Year entrant – Christopher Leslie Bespoke

An interior designer and a cabinet maker/project manager, partners Hayley Gee and Chris Ansell used their 28 years of combined industry knowledge to set up Christopher Leslie Bespoke.

Based in Stoke-on-Trent but working for clients around the UK they craft bespoke furniture for unique individuals inspired by their personality.

Set up as a limited company in August 2022, Chris had previously worked as a sole trader. The couple currently use sub-contractors but plan to take on a team of craftspeople.

Hayley said: “We started Christopher Leslie Bespoke because of one common problem. With furniture one size doesn’t fit all, especially when it comes to your home. Once you’ve scoured the earth for furniture that looks good and that’s in your budget you think you can finally relax. Until it arrives damaged, poorly assembled and looks nothing like the photos online.

“That’s why we have dedicated our time to creating a company that can take the hassle out of creating furniture.

“The places that we spend a lot of time in have a large effect on our mental health. This is why it’s so important to create a welcoming and inviting environment. By cutting out large consumer companies we can save time and money as well as cutting waste in half to help provide a more sustainable service.

“Along the way we have been fortunate enough to out-grow our tiny garage, re-branded, purchased incredible machinery and moved into a large workshop.

“We want to change the way the world sees furniture. Every space brings its own opportunity to create a timeless design while expressing your individuality through each piece.”

Christopher Leslie Bespoke has entered the Small Business of the Year category of the University of Staffordshire Business Awards.
